With any luck...

I just did the last school visits I will have to do for a long, long time (maybe even forever). Thank God. I did 24 separate readings of The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza by Philemon Sturges this week. This year I only had to do 5 schools, not six, because another librarian closer to Lincoln Heights volunteered to do that school. Thank the dear Lord for her. I don't think I've got another school visit in me.
The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza is really a cute little book, and I read it using puppets and student volunteers which made it even more crowd-pleasing, but 24 readings over 3 days is just too many readings. It's hard to keep up the enthusiasm. Last year's school visits in which I read Bark, George by Jules Feiffer and played animal phrase hangman were probably a trifle more successful, but this year's visits went fine, and I was satisfied.
I've now got about 2 more weeks until the Summer Reading Program starts, and I'm in pretty good shape. I just have to nail down the calendar and then I can start putting my packets together to hand out. We're late in starting this year because school lets out so late.
