Okay, to save face here, my favorite local restaurants are local joints, owned and operated by immigrants: Mikado, a sushi place, Osta's, which has Lebanese food, and Bosna Express, which is Bosnian. But the fact is, we can't afford to eat out at these places all that much. And I like to eat out.
We solve this dilemma by eating at a (limited) variety of chain restaurants. I am not a very adventurous restaurant patron. Basically, I have the same thing every time I go because that's what I'm in the mood for. Given that, these are my top five fast-food meals, in descending order:
5. Big Mac Meal at McDonalds (fries and Coke included). Greasy and caloric, so I don't indulge that much, but deeeelicious. I love that "special sauce" taste mixed with onion and pickle. Mmmm.
4. Taco Supreme Combo at Taco Bell. I used to be a big fan of the Mexican Pizza, but in my humble opinion, it's gone downhill in recent years . I don't like liquid cheese very much, so when I went looking for alternatives, that eliminated some of the menu. Finally I settled on the Taco Supreme. I would not have thought I'd like sour cream on a taco, but that and a little mild sauce equals yum in my book.
3. Japanese Pan Noodles at Noodles & Company. These are so nummy. Love that soy sauce. I add the chicken breast and get extra broccoli. A bonus is that Noodles & Company has the best soda fountain in town. The ice is superb, so crunchable, and Coke is on tap, not Pepsi . I could slurp Coke and crunch ice there all day.
2. You Pick Two: Broccoli cheddar soup and Sierra Turkey sandwich at Panera Bread. Panera is probably a little overpriced, but that broccoli cheddar soup is sooooo good, especially when the weather is cold. I really like the tangy taste of the chipotle on the turkey sandwich, and the bread is to die for.
1. Pepperoni Pizza at Pizza Hut. I am not a pizza fanatic. I would probably just as well eat a Meijer frozen pizza as a Papa John's or some other chain pizza delivered (or pick up since I never have anything delivered as I find the tipping ritual stressful). But Pizza Hut pizza is soooo greasy and cheesy and good. And it tastes even better the next morning for breakfast. I love their breadsticks too. Great sauce. The only minus? Pepsi products instead of Coke. Oh, and the scale shock the next morning.
Can't wait to eat Panera Bread broccoli and cheese soup with you this
winter! Yum. But yes, I think Panera is kind of expensive for what you
get. But there is something about Panera because the restaurant is always
packed. I think Noodles is kind of expensive too for the plate of noodles
that you get. But it is good too for a splurge once in a while.
