I just finished watching The Office, season 2. Last episode, last scene? Um, sa-woon!
As I was searching the internet looking for more good pictures of John Krasinski, it occurred to me that most of my TV crushes are for guys on the pitiful side of unrequited love. This is true for romance novels too. I love the unrequited scenario, especially if he's the one crushing and she's the one who doesn't suspect. That's why AAR now has an Unrequited Love list - because those are my kinds of romance novels. Some of my favorites from this list:
Libby's London Merchant by Carla Kelly
Passing Fancies by Elizabeth Mansfield
The Boyfriend School by Sara Bird
Over the Edge by Suzanne Brockmann (Brockmann LOVES this scenario; tons of her books are predicated on it)
Truly, Madly Yours by Rachel Gibson
Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes
If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend by Alison Pace
Miranda Blue Calling by Michelle Curry Wright
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (Clay is worth getting bitten for!)
Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn
Anyway, a few days back, Kate, one of my AAR colleages posted a blogging about her laminated list . I've also heard this referred to as a free pass list. As I was trying to cough up my own it occured to me that I really don't have this type of list because for me, it's not really the actor as much as the character. I mean, I swooned over Richard Armitage when I watched North and South, but would I find him so lust-worthy in a contemporary film? I don't know. Same with Jeremy Northam. I LOVED him in The Winslow Boy. So romantic. Gosford Park - not so much. For me it's mostly about the character, and most of my more serious crushes come from television because there's more time to observe, crush and re-crush when you've got 22 episodes, as compared to 2 hours. So who are my TV crushes? Well, I'd like right now to induct:
Jim Halpert from The Office. [Ceremonial swoon]
And then there's Logan Echolls. Jason Dohring really is FAR too young for me to crush on and not actually that hot, but Logan Echolls, that's another story. It's ALL about attitude. Heck, I've never been a Harry Hamlin fan, but I thought he was smokin' as Aaron Echolls. It's the character; I'm telling you.
Finally, there's my biggest TV crush ever: Spike. He was the best thing about Buffy. She completely emasculated him in the final season, but he was still hot. Hot, HoT, HOT, HOT,HOT.
All of these guys have serious cases of unrequited love, and two of the three are frankly bad news. But what can I say, I'm smitten.
