I thought I'd give a little picture update on Rosie's amputation . Here's my pretty girl, two months after having her leg lopped off. She looks like she's sleeping, but really she's closing her eyes while cleaning the area. She wasn't too keen on me taking pictures of her bath time, to tell the truth.
So, after a promising post-op, a rocky adjustment to having no leg (she got very lethargic and anti-social for a time), she's bounced back and become our old Rosie, albeit a little less smooth-gaited. She's still full of piss and vinegar, though. Just ask the possum she found on our compost pile the other night. I had to shoo her away from him after she'd chased him up our back fence.
Here's another photo of the site itself. The hair has grown back, but that top layer isn't complete. Around the site of the sutures, it's sort of brown and tufty. She tends to lie on that side, which would make sense - there's nothing to get in the way of the pillow there. The brown pillow is her dog bed, for which I sewed a new brown fleece cover right after her surgery so she'd have a bit of extra softness to lay about on.
We're so glad we still have our Poochie with a Heart of Gold. And that she's back to her old self!
So glad you have your old Ro-Ro back! You made the right decision to
relieve her of her bum leg. It was a little iffy there for a bit but it
sounds like she is making a comeback. Here's to many more wonderful years
with your sweet poochie. Have a wonderful weekend, see you Sunday! :)
Love ya.
Laurie - I think Max understands the amputation as well as a child of his
age can. I think when it happened he found it a bit troubling. But she's
okay now, and so is he. As for TLC - I only wish he was gentle with Rosie.
But he's got so much ENERGY, he's such a little boy. He likes helping her
and he did help when we first came home, but it was help of the "Let me get
her some water - whoops, spilled it all over the floor. Sorry, Mommy!"
variety.
