One of my garage sale goals this summer...

...has been to collect socks and fabric enough to make one of these - a stupid sock creature.  Late in the spring, just about the time I pack up my sewing machine for the season and pull out my gardening trowel, I stumbled across a book in the library, Stupid Sock Creatures by John Murphy.  The book was both fun and instructive.  Murphy includes simple but detailed instructions on how to make about seven of these little guys and made it seem like a fun way to expend creative energy and recycle old clothes and use fabric.  The Good Lord knows I have enough fabric around here.  My problem, besides the time of year, was that I really didn't have any old socks to spare.  And I had no fancy socks at all.  I'm pretty much a black, navy, and white sock person, with the occasional tan sock thrown in for thrills.  So since garage sale season began, I've been scouring around for fun socks and now have a small collection that includes some very colorful foot gloves. 

Foot gloves - those things are tacky.  I can't imagine a single normal situation in which a foot glove would enhance an outfit or make someone look better.  However, my second-hand foot gloves are going to look magnificent on my little sock creatures.  I also picked up some irridescent polyester fabric, some fleece and a few weird ties to add color to these little guys.  I love summer, but this is something to look forward to doing when the weather grows cooler.
