So along with painting the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, hall, stairwell, and upstairs bedroom, replacing lights in the kitchen and porch, and planting more stuff in the backyard, we've also been updating our three-season porch. Last fall we put insulation in, but with our old jalousie windows, it was still freezing cold in there after about mid-October. So the goal this year was new, double-paned, insulated windows, three sets to replace the six old windows. The largest window has two smaller windows, one on each side of a large picture window. Last Saturday they put them in. Here are the before and after.
Before
These actually look nicer than they were. The metal got really gunky, and each window had a sticky-outy handle that made the space cluttered and awkward.
After
Don't the new windows look great? I love them. The backyard view is now like a huge picture with the big middle window as a frame. Next summer I'm going to have to plant some really colorful annuals up there to make that picture even more spectacular. Looking at the new windows, I sigh in...relief. I didn't realize quite how ugly the old ones were - at least not consciously - before. The porch still needs some work, but the space is exponentially better now with just this one change.
Those windows look awesome. We had the stupid louvered windows in L.A.
(smaller slats, though) and it got cold there when the wind kicked up in
"winter" -- I can't imagine having those in a colder climate. Hopefully
you'll get a ton of use out of that room this winter.
Thanks, Mary - I'm very happy with them and I hope they keep us snug this
winter too. :)
