Just how many admirers does Sookie have?

posted Thursday, 21 June 2007

Dead as a DoornailI've been catching up on the Sookie Stackhouse series this year.  I reread Dead until Dark earlier this spring and then two more in the series, Club Dead and Dead to the World.  In my opinion, this series is growing progressively worse, with Dead as a Doornail being only (barely) mediocre, an excuse for Harris to 1) do more horrible and violent things to Sookie (How many times does Sookie have to be beaten up, shot at, and a target for arson and murder before she decides it's dangerous for her to stay in Bon Temps?) and 2) have her male supernaturals salivate all over her poor wounded carcass.  Sookie goes from one thing to the next, being sought out by gorgeous virile weres and vamps, all of whom want her for their very own and get jealous if they see her with another super...which frequently happens as they jostle each other for rank and opportunity to ravish her.

So just how many admirers does Sookie have?  Let's see...there's:

Bill

Sam

Eric

JB duRone

Alcide

Calvin Norris

Quinn

Am I missing anyone?  Of the above, only one, JB, is human, and IIRC, he only appears in the first book.  Though Sookie is attractive and plucky and has an interesting psychic talent, it's beyond me what makes her such a supernatural magnet.  But all of the guys want her.  All of 'em.  All the time.  I'm getting tired of the make-out sessions that go nowhere and her inability to decide and settle.  The Southern Vampire series is starting to noticeably resemble the Anita Blake series, at least in flaws.  I'm not entirely caught up on the series yet, but the next book, Definitely Dead, better be heavier on plot and lighter on the Sookie lovefest if I'm going to finish it.

My vote for who Sookie should settle on?  Calvin Norris.  He's not the flashiest of the bunch, but he's the steadiest.  Either him or Alcide.
