Thing is, things around here haven't been too exciting. I've been cooking a lot more than usual, and my dishwasher is protesting the new loads. Had to get out the screwdriver today and do a small repair. Last night we had chili, corn bread, and jello with fruit cocktail. I spent the afternoon making oatmeal cookies. It was all very Midwestern delicious. The more I cook, the more I feel that, in a way, I'm giving Max a piece of my own childhood. Homemade cookies. Jello. Eating dinner at the table. It's the Pettigrove way: slow and steady wins the race.
J. seems to be settling into taking a lunch and actually told me the other day that he thought eating more homemade food was benefitting his health. Interesting. And our credit card bill for September was considerably lower than last month's; a much more acceptable amount, and we'd only had a week or two of not eating out for that to affect it.
Max is going to school now every day, so, of course, we've both gotten sick. He doesn't sleep well when he's ill, so I haven't been sleeping as much.
I've also been fretting about the economy. What will happen to all the restaurant owners when everyone has to cook more? A year and a half ago, I felt my lifestyle was definitely outclassed by the lifestyles of some of my college friends. But now I'm worrying a little about about what the collapse of the housing market is going to affect my generation's choices for work and family. Heck, how it's
going to affect all of our choices for work and family. Generally speaking, I don't need a Doomsday scenario to think Doomsday thoughts, but when one presents itself so handily, how can I resist?
I'm still not voting for Obama, though. Not sure who I am voting for, but it won't be him. [Whoops, a little political commentary slipped in there. Sorry. It's that time of the election year.]
I finished my review book, but haven't started anything else. I've watched some episodes of Mad Men, and find it compelling watching, though a bit sad. No one seems happy. The sets are tres cool, though. Too many hideous lamps to count, but I love the knotty pine cupboards in the Draper kitchen. Why did knotty pine ever go out of style? It's so warm and homey.
Well, that's about it. I'll have to get my behind in gear reading so I can put another review up soon.
I LOVE Mad Men. So addicting. It is rather depressing, though. Love the
outfits, but am glad I can wear jeans and tennis shoes.
